Three Elite Teams Advance to State Cup Final Four

SOCA Elite teams swept three State Cup matches on Saturday, September 28, with each advancing to the semi-final stage of the statewide, single-elimination, championship event. The U15 Girls, U18 Girls and U18 Boys all marched to the final four in their age group.

The U15 Girls Elite posted a thrilling win via penalty kick shootout over FC Richmond, while on the road at Huguenot Park in Richmond.  With the match tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, that score held through the over-time periods.  SOCA prevailed in the penalty kicks, 4-3, with Devon Higginbotham clinching the win on the fifth kick from the mark.  In the semi-final match-up, the U15’s will face top-seeded SYA Cardinals.

The U18 Girls Elite enjoyed the most comfortable margin of the day with a 3-1 win over NVSC at home.  The U18’s will face Virginia Beach City FC in the next round.

The U18 Boys Elite also played at home where they dramatically came from a 0-2 deficit with 15 minutes remaining to post a 4-2 overtime win over VBR Star.  The U18 Boys will play Barca Academy NoVa in the semi-final.

All semi-final matches are scheduled to be played October 26 at the Virginia Soccer Training center in Spotsylvania.  For complete State Cup scores and scheduling, visit:  https://www.vysa.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2519875
