SOCA invites you to participate in the 2020 Sunburn Tournament, which will take place May 23 & 24, 2020, in Charlottesville. The tournament is accepting all USYSA registered Recreational teams throughout the state of Virginia. Teams from SOCA Charlottesville/Albemarle and Augusta Regional Recreational leagues are especially encouraged to participate. Games will be held at the SOCA-ACAC South Fork Soccer Park in Albemarle County and other fields to be determined. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of three games. SOCA recreational tournaments are a great fun-filled soccer weekend!
This tournament is held for the enjoyment of the players. SOCA’s goal is to provide Recreational players an opportunity to showcase their skills and experience the exhilaration of a tournament setting. All participants (players, coaches, and spectators) are encouraged to enjoy the fun and challenge of a tournament format. The highest standards of sportsmanship are expected.

Who Can Play?
The Sunburn Tournament is open to all Recreational teams and players who are registered with USYSA. No Travel teams or Travel players are permitted. The tournament is for current (Spring 2020) Recreational teams, their officially rostered players, and their officially rostered recreational guest players only. SOCA Challenge teams and SOCA Recreation teams, and Recreation teams from other USYSA clubs are permitted. All team members must be on the team roster prior to the application deadline. No All-Star teams.

Can we bring guest players?
A maximum of five guest players are permitted for each U10 and older team. Guest players must be rostered on a USYSA Recreational team prior to the application deadline. No team may use a guest player from another SOCA team that is also participating in this tournament. The maximum roster size, including guest players, may not exceed the limits described below.

How do we enter?
Complete an online registration with the link below or apply at the SOCA office. Provide full payment no later than the application deadline May 1, 2020 at the SOCA office. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. SOCA reserves the right to determine the number of teams in each age group based upon on-time applicants and order of receipt.

How many, and when are the games?
The tournament will use a two-day format. There will be a minimum of three games for each team. Games will be played on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24. Participating teams must be prepared and willing to play at any time between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm on both days. Sorry, no scheduling requests can be considered. The championships matches will be played on Sunday, May 24.

Other Tournament Rules Highlights
- As this is a Recreational Tournament, all healthy and eligible players must play at least half of each game.
- All teams are expected to field full sized teams, for their age group. The requirement for an opponent to “play down” in order to keep both teams at even number is waived for tournament play.
- All SOCA teams must wear their current issued uniforms. No exceptions.
- Eyeglass hinges must be covered.
- Tournament officials reserve the right to verify the identification of all players prior to the start of each match. Unregistered players are not permitted.

- U12 Teams = $415
- U15 & Older Teams = $430

Refunds & Cancellations
Refund requests received in writing, prior to May 1, will be refunded in full. No refunds will be given after May 1, except in the event of tournament cancellation.
If the tournament is cancelled, SOCA will pro-rate refunds for teams as deemed appropriate.
